Truck Diaries
These are photographs of trucks I have seen in my neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia. I wanted to focus on the details of the urban landscape around me, and showcase aspects that help to define a place’s vernacular. Having moved here recently, I wasn’t entirely sure about what those details were. I did, however, notice many trucks. From beaters, regular workhorses, to antique relics kept polished on the street out front, Richmond has no shortage of trucks dotting each side street.
I began thinking of what this means for the city, how it describes the city, and in order to do that, I had to think about everyone I knew who has a truck. What kind of people drive trucks?
People who own trucks are inherently kind souls. They help friends move, pick up furniture bought on a whim, or ferry people in the roomy beds to shows or home safely from a bar.
They’re lovers of the outdoors, and enjoy driving to a lookout to gaze at a view or up at the stars at night. Perhaps they have a topper and sleep in it while camping.
After all this thinking, I figured Richmond must be a pretty kind place with these kinds of people.
